Frequently Asked Questions

Please have a look at the answers to the most commonly asked questions about:

A typical massage therapy session

Must I be completely undressed?

Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer for your own comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?

The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.

Will I be covered during the session?

You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

You and the practitioner will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).

Will oil or lotion be used?

A light oil or lotion may be used to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin. The lubricants used will hydrate the skin and be readily absorbed.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Additional tips

  • Don’t eat a heavy meal before the massage.
  • If it’s your first time at the clinic arrive at least 10 minutes early to complete the necessary forms. Otherwise, arrive 5 minutes early so you can have a few minutes to rest and relax before starting the massage.
  • Please drink plenty of water after any massage this ensures the elimination of toxins.

How does Istvan work?

During my extensive experience working on luxury cruise ships I have developed a unique technique that combines 7 different styles of Eastern and Western massage techniques that has proven very effective for many clients all over the world. My personal touch is something that is beyond technique, I am thankful to my spiritual guides who are helping me touch you in a healing and loving way. A Swedish massage session will start with broad, flowing strokes which will help to calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, I will gradually increase the pressure to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so I can take another approach. Massages are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Deep-Tissue Massage

What is Deep-Tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

How does Deep-Tissue massage work?

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.

What are the benefits of Deep Tissue massage?

Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:
– Chronic pain
– Limited mobility
– Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
– Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
– Postural problems
– Ostearthritis pain
– Fibromyalgia
– Muscle tension or spasm
People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.
The purpose is to “unstick” the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic.

How will I feel?

Massage therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during the deep tissue massage.
You may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on certain tense areas. It is important to drink plenty of water as you can after the massage to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.

How fast will I get results with a deep tissue massage?

It’s important to be realistic about what one massage can achieve. Many people ask for more pressure, thinking that if the therapist just pushes hard enough, they can get rid of all their knots in an hour. This just won’t happen. In fact, undoing chronic knots and tension built up over a lifetime is best achieved with an integrated program that includes exercise, work on your posture and ways of moving, relaxation techniques and a regular program of massage. Finally, while Deep Tissue massage is certainly valuable, you should be aware that gentle styles of massage like Swedish massage can also produce profound release and realignment in the body.

Will deep tissue massage hurt?

At certain points during the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort and pain. It is important to tell the massage therapist when things hurt and if any soreness or pain you experience is outside your comfort range. There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside within a day or so. The massage therapist may recommend applying ice to the area after the massage.

Hot-Stones Massage

”Imagine yourself cast adrift on a sea of luxurious warmth. All the cares and stresses of the day are floating away.”

What is Hot Stones massage?

Hot Stones massage is a unique connection we experience with nature, offering a sense of profoundness and sacredness that we too often forget. It’s a deep healing and unique moment that enhances our awareness and brings us closer to our true essence. It is the perfect treatment that is as enjoyable and healing for the client as it is for me.
Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. I’ll also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.

How does Hot Stones massage work?

Hot Stones massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage.

What are the benefits of Hot Stones massage?

Many people find the warmth of the hot stones to be comforting. Hot stones massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet. It’s also suited for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The heat relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure. Those experiencing a Hot Stones massage will notice a healing improvement of the following symptoms:
  • Poor circulation
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression
  • Muscular aches, pains, sprains, and strains
  • Rheumatic and arthritic conditions
  • Fibromyalgia
  • MS
Hot Stones massage ensures that every cell in the body receives more oxygen and nutrients while at the same time waste material is removed more effectively through the corresponding increase in lymph flow. It is like changing the old oil and filter in your car for a newer filter with clean oil—a service for the body.

How will I feel?

Hot Stones massage makes you feel deeply relaxed, allowing you to let go of all the stress that is held within your body. It is really an amazing experience to have by anyone! The stones are never rough. They are always flat and smooth. The stones I use on the back are about the size of a large egg, only flat. I will always hold the stones first before touching them to your body, which ensures that the temperature will not be too hot. However, everyone has their own comfort range. Be sure to speak up if the stones are too hot for you.

Swedish Massage

What is Swedish massage?

Swedish massage is a genre that includes the intentional and systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to enhance health and healing. Joint movements and stretching are commonly performed as part of the massage. The primary characteristics are touch and movement. The massage session can last from 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours. These sessions are generally wellness oriented and aim to improve circulation, relax the muscles, improve joint mobility, induce general relaxation, promote healthy skin and create a general sense of well-being.

How does Swedish massage work?

Swedish massage techniques include: long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions. The usual sequence of techniques is:
  1. Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips
  2. Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  3. Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  4. Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
  5. Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping
  6. Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.

What are the benefits of Swedish massage?

Touch in the form of massage can make a huge difference. There are many explanations for this:
  1. improved circulation – more oxygenated blood plus removal of toxins.
  2. reduction in pain – massage stimulates the brain to release natural painkillers
  3. anxiety reduction – it has been shown that relaxation and anxiety cannot co-exist. This helps the person realise that they can cope.
  4. relaxation effects – as the body lets go of accumulated tension it is able to work better as there are fewer demands being placed on it.
  5. healing – touch is healing and certainly the improved circulation already described improves healing time and is why sports people seek massage therapy.
  6. energy – we tend to have more energy after a massage. Tension tends to ‘trap’ energy; massage tends to encourage energy to flow. The Massage Therapist will hopefully create all these effects which are made even more special by the caring and love given, as well as his / her intent.

Life-Energy healing

What is Life-Energy healing

Energy function and action within the body is carried out by means of energy without which we could not walk, see, think or digest… In fact we would not even be alive. The treatment is carried out by passing the hands over the patient. I (Margaret) can immediately detect when a part of the body is unbalanced or unhealthy by the feeling of heat or pain in my hands. During treatment I act as a channel allowing positive energy to flow through my hand and extracting negative energy from the patient through the other hand. Balancing the energy level has a vitalising effect on the body and leads to the restoration of the patient’s good health.

To understand it, you really need to understand that everything in the world is made up of energy. This has been proven by quantum physics – when the atom was split it was found to be made up of particles of energy that are constantly vibrating. The speed of vibration of the energy determines how solid any given thing appears. Our bodies are made up of energy that is vibrating quite slowly, because to us they appear quite solid, but a rock is made up of energy that is vibrating much more slowly because it appears extremely solid. A filmy material is made up of energy that is vibrating quite fast, so it appears light and floating.
What holds the energy in place so that it forms the appearance we see? Rupert Sheldrake refers to an area of intelligence around each form which he calls morphogenic (or morphic) fields. In humans, animals, and plants – all living beings, in fact -this is what we refer to as the spirit or soul; the intelligence that is moulding the energy into shape. With man-made articles such as a table or piece of clothing, it is the intention of the person making the article (or who made the machine making the article) that forms the morphogenic field that holds the energy in that particular form.

Around our bodies and permeating them (and around every other thing, including the rock) there is more energy that is vibrating at a much higher rate so that most of us cannot see it, but it can be picked up by Kirlian photography and seen by people with extra-sensorial abilities like Margaret. This is known as the etheric body. Aura photographs will pick up another layer of energy that is vibrating even more rapidly. There are more layers of energy beyond that that are vibrating even faster and stretch out into infinity. As Einstein said: ‘energy is all there is.’

Acting on the main Causes of illnesses

All physical disorders start first in our energy system, beginning in the emotional or mental bodies, moving down into the etheric (which is the subtle body closest to and permeating the physical body) and then appearing on the physical level as symptoms of mental, emotional, or physical dis-ease. And this is so with animals as well, not just with humans. Feeling around the energy system can disclose areas that feel thickened or sticky, areas where there seems to be little or no movement in the energy flow, where there are bulges or dips in the energy field, where there seems to be a difference in temperature (such as heat or coolness), and so on.

How does Life-Energy healing work?

Life-Energy healing works to remove blockages, rebalance the energy, and get the energy flowing freely. You don’t need to be aware of your energy field and in fact not many people are though healing and well being depends upon its free flow.
That’s why I can help. I can see, sense and assess your energy field and work through the seven energy centres – chakras – each one of which is like the fuse box of an electrical supply. I will channel your energy along the meridians and into your cells.
We are all different and we all respond in our own ways to the accumulation of daily events in our lives. These responses impact on our energy functions. Unresolved problems can lead to health and relationship difficulties.
Releasing your natural, healthy energy balance and flow could dramatically change your life!

The Chakra System

The word “chakra”, literally meaning “wheel” or “circle”, refers to energy centres that exist both within and out with the physical body. These centres correspond with nerve plexuses in the body. Most texts traditionally discuss the seven major chakras as illustrated in this image. In reality we have thousands of chakras all over our body. The seven centres have governing metaphysical as well as physical functions.

The role of the chakras is to accept, transform and emit energy to different parts of the body. This energy is then circulated around the body effectively animating and nourishing it much as our cardiovascular system nourishes us via our blood. This chakra system makes up part of our wider bio-field commonly referred to as our aura. Homeostasis, the body’s natural ability to self regulate, dictates our physiology and is vital to our overall health. Our bio-field is also geared to self regulate. However when blockages appear in our bio-field that we are unable to remove by ourselves, systems of energy medicine, such as Bio-energy Therapy and Reiki, work with the chakra system to help restore energetic self regulation. A free flowing, self regulating energy field helps the mind, body and spirit to self regulate and heal.
